HUD-Funded Bond Hamilton Townhouses Support RHA’s Ongoing Initiative to ‘Change the
Face of Public Housing’

Rochester, NY—On Monday, October 21, at 10:00 AM, the Rochester Housing Authority (RHA) will host a press conference announcing the redevelopment of some of its Public Housing townhouses in the South Wedge neighborhood. The HUD-funded Bond Hamilton Townhouses will feature six accessible housing units, four of which are connected in a townhouse configuration. The remaining two units are part of an existing duplex that will be replaced by new construction.

The project marks a significant milestone in RHA’s ongoing effort to increase and improve housing options for residents, while addressing the growing need for housing in the city. Completion is expected in early summer of 2025.

The press conference will feature remarks from Senator Joe Morelle, Mayor Malik D. Evans, South Wedge Planning Committee Chair Lindsey Allen, and RHA Executive Director Shawn Burr.

“The Rochester Housing Authority is proud to announce the redevelopment of the Bond Hamilton Townhouses,” said RHA Executive Director Shawn Burr. “These townhouses will provide ADA accessible and high-quality homes for six families while also enhancing the community. The beautiful townhomes represent another significant milestone in RHA’s work to change the face of public housing,” Burr continued. “I am proud of our team’s hard work and dedication to make this vision a reality, and we look forward to the positive impact it will have on the community and the families we serve.”

The project—which began initial planning in 2019—reflects consultation with local residents, stakeholders, and HUD and local officials. The final design incorporates feedback from multiple community meetings and includes expanded accessibility features to meet the needs of all residents. RHA has partnered with DGA Builders, LLC, and EDGE ARCHITECTURE to bring this project to life.

“Projects like RHA’s Bond Hamilton Townhouses symbolize our commitment to creating quality, affordable homes that can help break the cycle of poverty," said Mayor Malik Evans, who grew up in that neighborhood. “This development will provide housing stability for families, creating a foundation for future generations to grow and thrive. Thanks to the dedication of the City’s Housing Team, RHA, and our many housing partners, Rochester is building toward a prosperous future for all.”

The Bond Hamilton Townhouses are part of a few hundred RHA owned “scattered sites” in the City of Rochester and represent RHA’s larger vision of transforming public housing. The townhouses will fit into the unique style of the South Wedge neighborhood and offer high-quality, accessible, affordable housing options for Rochester residents.
